A board-certified general surgeon, Rachel Alt, MD, graduated from the University of Missouri School of Medicine in Columbia, Missouri in 2012. After medical school she moved to Arizona to complete her surgical training at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix. During this time she had the opportunity to train under Dr. Prebil and surgeons at CMIRS and was introduced to the DaVinci Xi robotic platform.
After witnessing the benefits of robotic surgery first hand, Dr. Alt decided to pursue additional training in robotic surgery. She completed an accredited 1 year fellowship at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, New Jersey. Her training focused on laparoscopic and robotic hernia repair and anti-reflux surgery. During this time she performed over 500 surgeries, including 300 robotic cases.
Dr. Alt was also involved in clinical research during fellowship. Alongside her mentor, she conducted several studies that examined the outcomes of robotic surgery with the goal of minimizing post-operative pain and improving quality of life. These studies were presented at the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons meeting in 2019, and are in peer review for publication.
After gaining extensive hands on robotic experience in fellowship, Dr. Alt returned to Phoenix to join the team at CMIRS.
Outside of her clinical practice, Dr. Alt enjoys hiking, camping with her husband and son, and visiting her home state of Iowa.
